Abba, Father! – Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,” says the Lord Almighty. (2 Corinthians 6:18)
Jesus has taught us to pray, “Our Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:9-13). The word “Father” unites us with Him in an intimate manner. It is reiterated in another scripture also, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,” says the Lord Almighty (2 Corinthians 6:18). How many times have you felt proud to introduce your children to others saying, “This is my son…This is my daughter!” Even in this new month, the heavenly Father would rejoice at you in the same way saying, “She is My daughter. He is My son.”
A rich man when he died, his son was deserted and was taken custody by his uncle. But this uncle seized all the property of this boy and chased him out of the house. The future appeared dark for this small boy. He was taken into an orphanage and was given education. Now, this boy accepted Jesus Christ as his father. His life changed. He gave his full attention to the studies. Though fellow mates teased him, he ignored to accept their insulting words. He was faithful to God and their guardians in the orphanage. God made him to come out as the topper in the state level. He joined in a medical college and was granted scholarship in his studies too. He stood first even in his college and proceeded with higher studies. He became an excellent doctor in the medical field!
John 1:12&13 says, “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” Moreover, the Bible says, He is a father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5). Do you feel orphaned? Are you worried about your carefree parents who do not have time to show concern over you? Do not lose heart. You have a good Father in heaven and He is all-sufficient for you. He would meet all your needs. He will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; He will counsel you with His loving eye on you (Psalm 32:8). You need not fear again for anything as you claim His sonship right in this world. This we read as, “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15).Rejoice and be glad.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
I come to Your throne of grace as your daughter / son. I believe that You came into this world just for me and accept You into my heart. I need You so much in my life. Be my father from today onwards. Remove the orphaned spirit from me. Show me the way in which I should walk. For Your glory, lift my head and crown me with Your goodness. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
