Born to bring forgiveness – Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
“To The Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness.” (Daniel 9:9)
Jesus came to the world to bring forgiveness to mankind. He came as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29). He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities and the punishment that brought us peace was on him (Isaiah 53:5). His blood washes us and makes us white as snow. God does not drive away anyone who comes to Him (John 6:37). The name Jesus means “he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). The very purpose for which God sent Jesus is to forgive the sins of mankind and reconcile man once again to God. God does not ask for any form of sacrifice from us. The only requirement of God is to freely accept His forgiveness and surrender ourselves to Him.
Charles Spurgeon was a British Baptist preacher. In those days, there was no microphone. So, he would go and test the level of his voice to see whether it would be audible to the audience on the day before meeting. When he tests his voice, he would usually say the verse, “The lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world” several times. On a particular day, he did the same thing and went to his house. Two hours later, a young man knocked on his door. He was in tears. He said that he was standing on the top of the floor and doing paint work when the Pastor was testing his voice. He said that after hearing that Bible verse, he felt guilty in his heart and asked the pastor, “Who will forgive my sins?” The Pastor told him about Jesus. Then this man cried to God, confessed that Jesus is Lord and became a child of God.
Are you carrying a burden of guilt? God invites you to lay it on Him at the cross and in exchange carry His gift of righteousness that is unmerited. You do not need to do anything other than confessing your sins and embracing His forgiveness. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). He is the same God who goes after the one sheep that has lost track of the Shepherd. He knows where you have been and He will not punish you for that. He only longs to bring you into his fold where you rightly belong.
Prayer:
My loving God,
I come to Your Presence just as I am. I confess my sins to you and request you to forgive them all. You died on the cross carrying my sin to give me your righteousness as a gift. I embrace your precious gift and choose to follow you all the days of my life. Keep me safe in your fold and deliver me from all weaknesses. Be with me in every step I take. Guide me and guard me.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen.
