Reading scriptures

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly …….with all wisdom”. (Colossians 3:16)

The world that we live in, has trapped us so much so, that we all long for and thus pray only for our materialistic needs. Thus, we leave out on the prime thing which would, actually help us live a better life. Have you spent time in prayer on pondering God’s Word, asking for divine wisdom, divine understanding?

When you read the scriptures the divine wisdom will come to you in the perfect manner. The Bible tells us “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts” (Colossians 3:16). Only when you set apart yourself away from the worldly things and meditate on God’s Word, God will give you the spiritual wisdom and understanding to know His will.

I remember a funny story. Once a gentleman was waiting at the railway platform. When the train arrived at the station, the people were asked to alight there; for the train would not go further as they were expecting major floods. This person went and stood near a lady, who was also waiting at the platform. He inquired as to when the train would resume the journey and what will happen because of the flood. He just didn’t know what to do. Now, since the lady didn’t hear him correctly, so she didn’t understand what he actually wanted to know and asked him to repeat the whole thing. The gentleman narrated the story of Noah, of the great flood from the Bible. The lady asked “ You are talking about the ark of Noah. I haven’t read the newspaper for almost 3 weeks. Only when I read, I’ll come to know”. The lady had no knowledge of the scriptures and so she spoke like that.

My dearly beloved, the Lord wants to fill you with divine wisdom. As you read the scriptures everyday, you will get filled with His word, and you will become perfect. That’s what Jesus says, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). It’s quite easy to get disturbed by an unpleasant situation. But if you meditate on God’s Word, you will gain divine wisdom. And with that, you will get divine peace and the strength to do your work without getting perturbed. The scripture tells us, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua 1:8). Yes! As you meditate on God’s word and are cautious in following it, you will be prosperous in all your undertakings. For this is the promise of God and all His promises will come to pass, for those who believe!

Prayer:

Mighty God, fill me with your Holy Spirit and strengthen me spiritually.
Fill me with divine wisdom, divine understanding to understand your will for my life. May I be cautious in following your Word.
In Jesus name, I pray.

Amen
