God Is Love
“And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all”. (1 Thessalonians 3:12)
1 John 4:8 says that God is love. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. We often forget the unconditional love of God for us. When we are offended, we go to all extremes to avenge that person. But only the Holy Spirit, can help us love our neighbor. A perfect example is that of Jesus who suffered for us – all for the sake of love. So, let’s follow His footsteps.
When Jesus walked the earth, He went about doing good; healing the sick and the lame. Though He was mocked for being a companion to the sinners and challenged to prove Himself to be the Son of God; yet He continued to love every single person. Jesus was well aware that He would be betrayed by one of His disciples (Judas). However, He never warned, nor punished him. We also see that Peter his disciple who was very close to Him denied Him three times. Jesus said to him, “you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” ( Matthew 16:18). This is the heart of our Lord Jesus.
SCRIPTURE to LIFE
The One who knew no sin was made a sinner for you and me, only for one good reason – He loves us unconditionally. How much more are you supposed to love not only those who love you but also those who have deceived you and betrayed your trust. Are you ready to share this unconditional love of Jesus even to your enemies?
Prayer:
Gracious Lord, I seek Your grace to follow Your statutes. Grant me a loving and a compassionate heart. Help me to share Your unconditional love to my neighbors and especially to those who have offended me. Help me not to harbour any ill feelings. Take away feelings of resentment and bitterness, and help me to love them without any expectations.
