Faithful to forgive – Samuel Dhinakaran
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 john 1:9).
All of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The greatest burden of mankind is the sin problem. We can try our best and solve other problems but when it comes to sin we need to God’s help. Sin brigs fear into our lives and it disturbs our confidence in facing God. God saw that no one can help us other than himself. He came down as a man, lived a sinless life and sacrificed himself on the cross to remove our sins. Today, all we need to do to be free from sin is to confess them to the Lord and embrace His forgiveness for God is faithful to cleanse those who come to Him (1 John 1:9).
There lived a prince of a certain kingdom. He once went to visit the prisoners. On visiting them he asked each of them about what crime they had committed. Every prisoner complained that they were blameless but still they are imprisoned by false acquisitions. Uncommonly, there was one man who accepted his fault when the prince came near. The prince enquired him of his crime to which the man replied that he had committed a murder. He further cried unto the prince, regretting for what he had done, which had led the family of the man who died, to face great sorrow. The prince, impressed by his contriteness, told the man that since he had realized his fault he is now free to go. However, that man pleaded the prince to take care of that family instead of letting him free. The prince was surprised and shocked at this man’s concern. He immediately told this prisoner that he is not only free to go but will also be granted support to take care of that family by himself.
How sweet to know we have a Saviour who can save us from our sins. Our sins cannot separate us from God anymore. When Jesus cried on the cross to the Father pleading for our forgiveness God answered that prayer. That is why Jesus cried “It is finished” knowing that sin has been defeated (John 19:30). You and I need not carry the burden of sin anymore. Just lay your sins at the feet of Jesus and enjoy the forgiveness He offers.
Prayer:
My sweet Saviour,
Thank you for paying the price for my sins and liberating me from the burden of sin. I confess my sins to You. I forsake them and choose to repent Lord. Give me grace to live worthy of Your unfathomable gift of salvation to mankind. I love You Lord.
I ask this in Your name Lord Jesus,
Amen.
