“For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” (Proverbs 6:23)
Parents, especially mothers, invest much time and effort in their children’s school studies, homework, sports, entertainment, and arts. But, have you ever taught your children the scriptures? Are your children enjoying their freedom within scriptural limits? Parents need to be careful to explain the Word of God and inculcate faith in them at an early age. Good success and prosperity can be enjoyed only through God’s Word, which is a lamp to the feet and light to the path. It is highly essential to sow the seeds of God’s Word in the hearts of children. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6 “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
When God gave me my dear son Paul, I took immeasurable delight and I felt that God had given me a priceless gift. At the same time, I zealously brought him up in godly ways right from his childhood days by teaching him to read the Bible so that no darkness would hover over him. I had a great burden that God should transform him into a mighty servant in His ministry. Though there were many hurdles for my ambition, I held fast to the Lord very firmly and abided in Him. God heard my prayers. With His infinite love, God drew the heart of my young son towards Him and made him walk closer to His side. He accepted the commands of the Lord as a lamp, the Bible as the light and the reproofs of instruction, as the way of life from his early days. The Lord abided with him to make him walk zealously before Him and helped him to choose the path of light. Today, he is shining as a servant of God and leads his life with God’s great wisdom.
Beloved! pray for your children. Confess God’s promises over your children’s life because God’s Word is filled with perfect advice and noble commandments regarding every subject. It is the duty of parents to feed their children the pure milk of God’s Word at their childhood days itself. It will form an imprint that is non-erasable. How true is God’s word “The commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life” (Proverbs 6:23)! So, take time to teach the scriptures by which the children would have God’s guidance, His warnings, rebukes and instructions. When God’s Word resides in their hearts with all its riches, they would navigate in this world overcoming every temptation and trap. Yes! Only the knowledge of God’s Word will lead them into godly prosperity and protect them from the fowler’s snare.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I thank You for the gift of children in my family. Give me the parenting wisdom. Fill me with passion and desire to bring up children for Your kingdom sake. Let the Holy Spirit have His way through my children’s heart whenever I teach them God’s Word. Let my children shine as stars with godly wisdom and understanding. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
