Respect Each Other – Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
“but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” (Philippians 2:3)
Psalm 149:4 says, “For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation.” Humility goes before exaltation. Some people humble themselves before God and not before men. But the Bible instructs us, “In lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself” (Philippians 2:3). Deep foundation of humility is a sign that a person’s life is built on Jesus Christ. Such a foundation would not allow a person to be shaken or turn away from reaching their purpose of God in their life. John Newton says, “I am persuaded that love and humility are the highest attainments in the School of Christ and the brightest evidences that He is indeed our Master.” Many years ago in Germany, an elderly and highly qualified elementary school principal held “Graduation Day” for the fifth grade students of his school. Every time a student came to receive the certificate, he would bow down and hand it over to them. People who saw this were astonished and asked, “Sir, why do you bow before these tiny tots?” He replied saying, “All these kids have been trained by me to be raised as scientists, doctors, engineers and rulers of the country in the future. Today, they are little children but I believe that eventually, they would occupy high positions in the future. Therefore, I recognise the greatness in them and bow before greatness.” Beloved, even our Lord sees the greatness in you like this school principal. Just like him, you too should recognise the greatness in people. Be humble before all people. They are also God’s creations having their own talents and purpose. Let not your position or status make you to look down on others. It is only when you have everything, you should be even more humble. This attitude of your heart will exalt you to greater heights. Recognise the greatness in everyone around you.
